The 12-cent engineer
Change is on the near horizon
Matt Welsh from Fixie.ai appeared on the excellent Danny in the Valley Podcast a few weeks ago, and I cannot stop thinking about the stats they discussed.
On the program, they were discussing two startling headlines:
48% of new code on GitHub is now AI-Generated
The number is huge and pretty impressive. But not surprising, considering how capable the tools are. GPT and Co-Pilot to generate code as they seem to read your mind as you're coding, pre-empting your next steps and providing alternatives. I used it to create this small HTML/Javascript presentation which is did in seconds:
I don't have the time or skills for intricate javascript work to develop the above, but was a fun few minutes of 'visualising' a problem. The technology will allow more pepole to orchestrate coding
The equivalent of a West-Coast Software engineer on $1,200 a day will cost 12c using GPT
Coders made AI, will AI now become Coders
